Eye-Inspire

Our Eye-Inspire sub-group works on projects that help improve accessibility for young people with visual impairments across the Highlands. Highlights of their work include:

  • Planning and implementing a Hi-Viz t-shirt support accommodation for a young member of Inspire Highland, this meant that they could easily spot their friends while playing in the playground
  • Working with hospitality services across Inverness to adopt accessible menus

Accessible Menus

Working in partnership with Café Artysans, Eye-Inspire helped to design and introduced accessible menus, ensuring all customers can enjoy an inclusive experience at the cafe. Working in collaboration with accessibility and inclusion experts Direct Access, menus in Braille and Large Print are now available for customers to use.

This project demonstrates how businesses, community organisations and lived experience can come together to create more accessible and welcoming spaces for everyone.

Sarah, an Eye-Inspire member said:

“I wanted to be able to read out menus myself instead of getting someone else to do it for me. I thought of the accessible menu for people like me to make it easier for other people to read menus.”

We hope this partnership will inspire other local businesses to consider how they can make their services more accessible and embrace accessibility in more meaningful ways.
