Connections

Connections was an innovative mental health project in Inverness that used arts-based approaches to support young refugees and asylum seekers. Created through collaboration between Eden Court, Compass Collective and Inspiring Young Voices, this initiative delivered 12 drama-based workshops for young people aged 14-24 from the Afghan resettlement scheme and unaccompanied asylum-seeking youth.

The workshops were specifically designed to:

  • Build confidence and develop transferable skills
  • Enhance English language proficiency and communication abilities
  • Provide a creative environment for exploring concepts of identity, belonging and resilience

This project served young people throughout the Highland region, including Inverness, Invergordon, Alness, Dingwall, Muir of Ord and surrounding areas.

Our cast performed to an audience of 150 people at Eden Court’s One Touch Theatre. Their performance was of the powerful story of Mohammed, who arrived in Scotland and found connection and community on a cricket pitch, received a standing ovation.
